Harleysville Insurance is a premier regional property and casualty insurer offering a full portfolio of commercial lines, personal lines, life, and flood insurance products.  We have an excellent opportunity for a Risk Control Consultant in our Risk Control Department with solid property and casualty risk/loss control experience to join our team of “Good People to Know”.  The person in this position will work out of their home in the NYC or Metropolitan area and will be responsible for servicing NYC, Northern Suburbs and Long Island with occasional work in CT.

This position is responsible for completing insurability surveys and loss reduction risk improvement service work on commercial lines of business which include property, liability, workers’ compensation, inland marine and commercial auto.

Bachelor Degree in Safety, Engineering or related field/equivalent is required.  ALCM, INS , ARM , CSP, CFPS or ASP designations desired.  Minimum of 5 years risk/loss control experience with insurance carriers and knowledge of the NY/NYC/Long Island area is required.  Candidate must have strong property skills and experience in evaluating habitational, warehousing, manufacturing, fleet and construction type risks. Your background should include knowledge of applicable codes and standards such as NFPA, DOT and OSHA as well as industrial and construction operations.  Experience should include consulting service work. 

Strong verbal, written and PC skills are required.  This job requires specialized technical skills in property and casualty areas and the ability to accurately report find­ings.  Overnight travel required which is approximately 5-10% of the time.

Weis Markets Inc., one of Central Pennsylvania’s leading employers, has an opportunity for a Safety Manager located at our Store Support Center in Sunbury, PA. This position plays a key strategic role in guiding the leadership team in building a culture of safety across the organization - stores, distribution center, food processing plants, fleet maintenance and Store Support Center.

As Safety Manager you will:

  • Create and drive the effective execution of a safety culture across the organization

  • Provide leadership in developing and implementing an effective Safety Management Program, including education, training, risk reduction and auditing practices 

  • Plan, develop and implement policies & practices designed to improve safety awareness and compliance

  • Partner with district loss prevention managers and the leadership team to identify opportunities for managing change

  • Collaborate with safety coordinators in the distribution center, food processing plants, stores and Store Support Center to conduct ongoing behavioral assessments around safe workplace behaviors

  • Perform monthly trend analysis and report results to the leadership team; recommend appropriate and timely interventions 

  • Ensure thorough investigations of accidents and OSHA complaints are conducted and proper courses of action are taken to resolve these

  • Act as company contact with insurance carriers and consultants; advise management team of recommendations for improvements

  • Compile information and statistics as required by the company, state and federal agencies and submit reports in a timely manner

  • Ensure compliance with all state and federal safety standards

  • Manage safety budget

The ideal candidate will possess the following:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety or related field; CSP or CHSP certification preferred

  • Experience in safety management, preferably in a retail operations

  • Proven leader with strong influencing skills.

  • Ability to build and maintain positive relationships
