TED BRICKLEY/BERNICE SHICKORA SCHOLARSHIP AWARD
PROGRAM GUIDELINES

I. Administration

  1. The selection committee shall consist of the Chapter President, President-elect and the Scholarship Committee.

  2. The Scholarship Committee and the Chapter Treasurer shall oversee the scholarship fund.

  3. The Chapter is authorized to accept contributions from individuals and/or corporations for the administration of the Scholarship.

  4. The dollar amount awarded under the Scholarship fund will be determined at the discretion of the Scholarship Committee as directed by the Executive Committee.

II. Eligibility

  1. Student(s) must be enrolled in Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science, or related major.

  2. Student can be Full-time or Part-time junior, senior, or Graduate student

  3. Student must have completed at least 6 credit hours in Occupational Safety and Health with a total of at least 12 completed credit hours in OSH or related courses.

  4. Student must have completed at least 18 credit hours in departmental related courses (physical sciences, math, OSH, etc.).

  5. Must have a GPA of 2.5 or greater on a 4.0 scale.

  6. Must have a GPA of 3.0 or greater in OSH courses on a 4.0 scale.

  7. Student must be a resident of New Jersey and be attending college in the state.

III. Application Requirements

  1. Completed application and a copy of the student's transcript have to be submitted to the New Jersey Chapter no later than April 14.
  2. Submit to the Chapter a letter of reference from the University’s Department Head, Professor in a related course, or Supervisor at a current relevant job.

IV. Judging Criteria

  1. The following criteria will be considered in evaluating all applicants:

  2. GPA as stated on the submitted transcript.

  3. Demonstrated leadership skills showed through extracurricular activities.

  4. Degree of involvement in safety/hygiene or related activities.

  5. Involvement with professional safety /hygiene or related organizations.

  6. Written communication skills as demonstrated through the application.

  7. Awards and honors earned at educational institutions.

  8. All other financial aid received.
